When I saw this adorable tweet by Donna, owner of pot + pantry, an equally adorable kitchen boutique in the Mission, I was instantly in the Christmas spirit and inspired to make a whole clan of gingerbread men. The whole lot in ugly Christmas sweaters! Red roses, red hearts, red boxes of candy. Valentine’s Day is a sea of red. I decided to make pink the color to celebrate with and my ingredient of choice… grapefruit. You can celebrate all day with ideas for brunch, a treat for the office, and desserts. 2007: Heart-shaped French Toast Valentine’s Day is exciting because I can finally create things in heart shapes. I don’t know what it is about hearts that I love so much but I have ramekins, silicone molds and cookie cutters all heart-shaped and it doesn’t seem fitting to use them unless its February 14th. Being a week away I couldn’t wait to try a new recipe. I was actually coming up with Super Bowl recipes and decided on chicken empanadas. Unfortunately I didn’t have all the ingredients so I decided to go sweet and make Chocolate and Banana Empanadas. Then I thought…what if I made them heart-shaped?! I was most excited about Martha Stewart’s episode featuring holiday cookies and in particular the Snow Globe cookie. How can you not love this cookie?
