Springtime at the Market

My first greeting to Spring season was a colorful one. This display of tulips at Thomas Farms was so vibrant and I’m glad the camera was able to capture the colors perfectly.

A week later they had a stunning rainbow of flowers from the violet irises in back to the tomato red sea anemones in front.

I ended up purchasing these tulips called “frillies” appropriately named for the way they fringe at the tips. I’ve never seen them before.

I accompanied the frillies with these sherbert-colored tulips. These caught my eye because of their bell shapes. I liked how they were pointed at the tips and stayed that way most of the time that they bloomed.

The morning sun illuminated these carrot bunches. The red, orange and yellow assortment would make a pretty vegetable tart.

It’s the first time I’ve seen edible blooms at the market. I imagine these would go nicely on a salad for pop of color.

Boulette Larder had a stack of goose eggs during Easter. They have more fat and protein than chicken eggs so when using them in cooking, the results will vary a bit. I’d like to experiment with these and ostrich eggs.

I usually walk by Frog Hollow Farms and see an assortment of pastries with seasonal fruit but this Meyer lemon cake stopped me in my tracks. The icing just perfectly drips down the sides. My mouth waters thinking about it.
