St Patrick's Day Sweet: See's Candies Potato

Dusty brown mound of yummy goodness. Bay Area’s See’s Candies sells this “sweet” potato every St. Patrick’s Day, which means I wait an entire year just to have it.

Baby Chick Cupcakes

The warm weather has only just started to settle in so it’s been strange to mentally think Spring. I realized Easter is next week after seeing Target’s four aisles of goodies. (The Nestle eggs mix with Crunch and Butterfinger is the best). To get in the Easter spirit, I made these adorable chick cupcakes by Martha Stewart but with a Hello Cupcake twist, just to make it easier on myself.

Pink is the New Red: Grapefruit Cupcakes

Red roses, red hearts, red boxes of candy. Valentine’s Day is a sea of red. I decided to make pink the color to celebrate with and my ingredient of choice… grapefruit.

Valentine's Celebration Treats

Here are few Valentine’s Day treats that I’ve done in the past. You can celebrate all day with ideas for brunch, a treat for the office, and desserts.

2007: Heart-shaped French Toast
So simple. Here I just used white bread and cut out hearts with a knife. Don’t worry I didn’t waste. I ate the scrap pieces of bread.

Sweet Heart Empanadas

Valentine’s Day is exciting because I can finally create things in heart shapes. I don’t know what it is about hearts that I love so much but I have ramekins, silicone molds and cookie cutters all heart-shaped and it doesn’t seem fitting to use them unless its February 14th. Being a week away I couldn’t wait to try a new recipe.

I was actually coming up with Super Bowl recipes and decided on chicken empanadas. Unfortunately I didn’t have all the ingredients so I decided to go sweet and make Chocolate and Banana Empanadas. Then I thought…what if I made them heart-shaped?! Oh I was excited and literally squealed in a high-pitched teenybopper voice.

Chocolate Chip...Crispy, Chewy, & Cakey

Three adjectives commonly used to describe cookies: crispy, chewy, and cakey. But I am actually talking about three completely different recipes that I did recently, all containing chocolate chips. Most notably, the espresso chip meringues featured in the header bar of the blog.

Snow Globe Cookies

There were a lot of holiday foodie episodes to watch this past December. I was most excited about Martha Stewart’s episode featuring holiday cookies and in particular the Snow Globe cookie.

How can you not love this cookie?

A Sparkling New Year's

Sparkle from creme brulee that is. I decided to play with my Christmas gift, a blow torch (thanks Sarah!). There was a bit of trial and error with the bruleeing so there was smoke but also spark and crackle like my own mini fireworks. After that, I patiently waited the whole minute before cracking through into silky creamy pudding. A great first recipe for the New Year.

Birch de Noel

I love the concept of a Buche de Noel (or Yule log). The dessert is traditionally served during the holidays in France. It is shaped like a freshly cut log and often decorated with meringue mushrooms, berries, and rosemary sprigs to give it that wintery look. I’ve recently been raving about Francois Payard’s version after seeing him make it on Bobby Flay’s Throwdown last year, but my fascination for yule logs goes back to a winter white version done by Martha Stewart.
