When it comes to sorbets, gelatos and ice creams I like flavors that have one main ingredient. Sometimes it’s fun to have chunks, swirls, or sauces of other things, but there is nothing like the intense taste of a single flavor. I made two sorbets that celebrate just the berries, olaillieberry and strawberry. For a refreshing summery touch, I jazzed [...]

Three adjectives commonly used to describe cookies: crispy, chewy, and cakey. But I am actually talking about three completely different recipes that I did recently, all containing chocolate chips. Most notably, the espresso chip meringues featured in the header bar of the blog.

Sparkle from creme brulee that is. I decided to play with my Christmas gift, a blow torch (thanks Sarah!). There was a bit of trial and error with the bruleeing so there was smoke but also spark and crackle like my own mini fireworks. After that, I patiently waited the whole minute before cracking through into silky [...]

I love the concept of a Buche de Noel (or Yule log). The dessert is traditionally served during the holidays in France. It is shaped like a freshly cut log and often decorated with meringue mushrooms, berries, and rosemary sprigs to give it that wintery look. I’ve recently been raving about Francois Payard’s version after [...]

Snickerdoodles, Mexican wedding cookies, chocolate crackles…

I love the idea of literally adding tea into the [...]

My first attempt at gnocchi a couple of months ago was a ricotta gnocchi, light and refreshing, perfect for summer. I decided to create something a bit heartier. Potato seemed a bit too ordinary so I went with pumpkin. Also with pumpkin I can use canned. Potatoes I’d have to cook, mash, and let cool. [...]

The chill of fall is really coming in which means it’s time to reluctantly, put away the grill, and clear out the oven for warm, hearty dishes. It’s the time of year when the oven is in action constantly. It’s energy-saving really because it will simultaneously cook and heat the kitchen. Win-win. Tonight I made [...]

Whether you crave sweet and comforting or decadent and rich here are two treats that will satisfy your sweet tooth.

Using ricotta cheese, I created lemon ricotta pancakes for breakfast and ricotta gnocchi. The ricotta is the magic ingredient as it makes both dishes very light and fluffy. Feels less filling. In the case of the pancakes, maybe not such a good idea because I was able to eat a stack of four.

One of the ingredients I look forward to using when in its in season is meyer lemon. I love that every part of it can be used - zest, peel, juice. Meyer lemon is not as tart as lemons you find year round which make them perfect for baking. These bars would be great for [...]
