Cooking from Giada at Home

My favorite kind of reading…from a cookbook. Giada de Laurentiis came out with a new book, Giada at Home and I tried out the Pasta Ponza. It’s light and refreshing with tomato as the main ingredient, but also comforting and satisfying with the addition of the bread crumb topping, reminiscent of a cold weather casserole [...]

Peas & Carrots Cupcakes

These cupcakes are perfect to make this time of year. They fit right in for a bunny-themed Easter party, Earth Day, or Spring Garden party, as shown in the Hello Cupcake book, where the peas and carrots are part of a garden plot along with cute radish and lettuce cupcakes.

This is [...]

More 'I Love You' Sweets

As I’ve only had this blog up since last April, I haven’t had a chance to document Valentine’s Day yet. Here are some of my past Valentine’s Day treats and ideas. With something for brunch, a treat for the office, and two finale desserts you could say “I Love You” all day.

'I Love You' Sweets

Valentine’s Day is exciting because I can finally create things in heart shapes. I don’t know what it is about hearts that I love so much but I have ramekins, silicone molds and cookie cutters all heart-shaped and it doesn’t seem fitting to use them unless its February 14th. Being a week away I couldn’t [...]

A Sparkling New Year's

Sparkle from creme brulee that is. I decided to play with my Christmas gift, a blow torch (thanks Sarah!). There was a bit of trial and error with the bruleeing so there was smoke but also spark and crackle like my own mini fireworks. After that, I patiently waited the whole minute before cracking through into silky [...]

Orange Spice & Early Grey Tea Cookies

Snickerdoodles, Mexican wedding cookies, chocolate crackles…
delicious cookies but done before. I felt like trying something different for my gifts this Christmas. I came across Earl Grey Tea Cookies on Martha Stewart’s website. First thing I thought was yes! its a log dough. Chill, cut, and bake.

I love the idea of literally adding tea into the [...]

Simple Sage and Honey Cornbread

Super simple, super moist. Sounds very Sandra Lee but it’s true. This recipe from Bon Appetit is easy to add on last minute to round out your Thanksgiving menu. It has ingredients you probably have in the pantry or on hand for other dishes. I made it last week for a pre-Thanksgiving dinner and there [...]

Cold Weather Comfort: Baked Chicken Mozzarella Meatballs

The chill of fall is really coming in which means it’s time to reluctantly, put away the grill, and clear out the oven for warm, hearty dishes. It’s the time of year when the oven is in action constantly. It’s energy-saving really because it will simultaneously cook and heat the kitchen. Win-win. Tonight I made [...]

Fluffiest Pancakes & Pasta

Using ricotta cheese, I created lemon ricotta pancakes for breakfast and ricotta gnocchi. The ricotta is the magic ingredient as it makes both dishes very light and fluffy. Feels less filling. In the case of the pancakes, maybe not such a good idea because I was able to eat a stack of four.
